Mary Steinberg is a visual artist of many mediums, born from the rural Appalachian foothills of Athens County, Ohio. Steinberg began pursuing her hobby as a profession in her teenage years, after self-teaching anatomy, color theory, and material techniques as early as 8 years old. In 2022 Steinberg began to find her own painting style purely out of fixation. Using the same old, small, square brush she harnessed unblended brushstrokes to create alla prima works such as 'Pawpaws', 'Hologram', and 'Winter Forest'. She has since branded this as her style and has used those pixelated and vibrant textures in almost every work since.
Steinberg became a student at Ohio University after taking three gap years. Here, in addition to the Ohio Pawpaw Festival and Athens Art Guild events, she gained some recognition for her works, winning a Juror's Award at her first group juried art exhibit. After three semesters of being an art student, Steinberg decided to take what she learned and go her own way.
In future years, Steinberg intends to explore taboo subjects through the lens of her experiences. These memories represented would include being young and having 'invisible disabilities' in America, friendships and an intimate view of how the state of the world is affecting the young adults of today, growing up seeing her forest home quickly changing for the worse with climate change, and the intricate, inexplainable feelings that come with intimacy.
