Statement
I use a vibrant, impressionist palette to birth my works rooted in Appalachian wildlife, folklore, and myth of my own creation. Representing all of which I love and call home is at the core of my artistic practice.
Maybe like many old wive’s tales, at times I like to add warnings, dark omens if you will, to my visual stories. Syphoning thoughts about what lingers in land that remembers, and what we as humans have forgotten. In my heart, I am an explorer, and I enjoy fiddling with the thought of coming across that which was previously thought to be merely fantastical. Or perhaps, if you truly let imagination and keen observation overtake you, you can see that magic already exists everywhere.
Memory is fickle for me, sometimes it warps like gnarled branches over a forest path. Through much of my work, I both document the reality of what was, and also layer in dreamy residue to reflect how those moments felt. I believe it is part of the artist’s role to communicate ideas that frequently resist language, offering them instead through what can be seen and experienced.
